We are thrilled that you have decided to apply into Med-Peds!

The University of Chicago Med-Peds program was founded in 1983 and embraces a rich history of providing high quality primary care to the community of Hyde Park and the surrounding area of Chicago’s south side. Our residents train in an environment where they develop skills to pursue whichever Med-Peds career they choose, while caring for patients who experience a myriad of health disparities. Our graduates are located across the country and become influential leaders within the realms of primary care, hospital medicine, subspecialty care, health equity, educational equity, scholarship, clinical leadership, and more!

Our residency selection process utilizes a holistic review process to ensure that we can identify and recruit trainees who will thrive at the University of Chicago. We place a strong emphasis on candidate experiences and attributes that align with our mission. That mission is to train residents who strive to provide equitable and high-quality clinical care to an urban, underserved population. Our hope is that our residents become leaders and innovators in clinical practice while developing their professional interests in disciplines such as advocacy, research, education, and administration.

Applications:
Our Med-Peds program accepts applications only through ERAS. The deadline to submit an application is December 31, 2025, although the vast majority of interview offers from our program will be sent on October 7, 2025. Our interview season will be entirely virtual and will run from late October through January. We do not have a pre-interview day ; rather, we will have 4 resident-led, virtual, community social events to provide an opportunity for applicants to have some informal time with our residents. All candidates scheduled to interview are welcomed to join whichever social event fits their calendar the best; more information about the socials will be sent with interview offers.

Letters of Recommendation:
We request a minimum of 3 letters of recommendation and accept no more than 4. Ideally, letters are provided by faculty with whom candidates have worked such that the letters can attest to the clinical development and abilities of the candidate. Additionally, it is preferred that the recommendation letters contain content from the candidate’s experiences in both Pediatrics and Internal Medicine.
